He was gone already, but Alicia did owe him. He may have saved her life.
"Thanks." She whispered, a tiny smile appeared on her face. Is every one a Super hero? The sudden appearance and disappearance, and a few other things...Alicia was listening with all her might when he arrived, there was no car, there was no walkie talkie, no walking up to her. How many Cops hop off a building?
Alicia could still hear the fight. Cracks of some kind of wood perhaps, on what may have been bone, she tried to listen closer.
" Everyone in this group has about five seconds. Okay. Times up. " That was Lockley. How very un-policeman of him...And where's the back up?
Alicia heard a car driving closer. Her fear returned, she stepped back until she was touching the side of a building. The car was only a few feet away. This is New York city. There are cars, calm down.I would feel so much safer if I just got a hand gun! Of course, who would give a Blind chick a gun?
The car stopped in front of her. Alicia's heart was pounding, she got her cane ready to swing again. Maybe some self defense courses...Karate...something like that. I'm sick of being the damsel in distress!
Alicia heard the sound of a bell. She knew where she was, it was only a few blocks to get out of Hell's kitchen. She thought through the lay out of that area around the old church on the corner, the bell rang again.
She heard the car window roll down, and smelled thick smoke pour out of the car. She thought through the map she had made in her head, and ran.
Her sneakers hitting the ground as she counted her steps. Seventeen, Eighteen..then a road...She listened to the car's driver yelling at her, she wasn't going back to see what he wanted.
She turned right, jogging quickly and counting her steps again. She had made sure she knew most of the major streets around her house, and this on should lead her home...hopefully. Forty, Forty One, Two, Three, Four... She continued counting, hoping she could trust her memory of steps.
